During my professional career as an environmentalist for the Mauritius government, I was exposed to the mechanics of implementing the Clean Development Mechanism of the Kyoto Protocol.
That made me intrigued as to how the global community had devised a ground breaking economic instrument to tackle the potentially catastrophic effects of climate change on a global scale.
Being a convinced environmentalist at a crossroads in terms of career paths, I seized the golden opportunity offered by the MSc in Carbon Management, with a view towards enhancing my professional and academic capabilities within an ethical career. The opportunity of learning and graduating from an institution of such international repute - and within a pioneer course - was simply too good to let go.
The best thing about the MSc so far has been the sharing of knowledge and ideas, not only with lecturers and guest speakers, but also with the mix of students of differing age groups, originating from all around the globe and from varying professions.
Despite the recent credit crunch, tackling climate change has remained high on the international political agenda. The exposure, networking and competencies that I would acquire upon graduation from the MSc in Carbon Management would definitely be an asset in engaging within a national and international carbon-related job market.
