Project partnerships with the School can take many forms. They are united, however, in the cost-effective benefits they offer to both student and project sponsor.
The Consultancy Project is the largest of our business projects. A collaboration between a host organisation and the Business School, it is an integral part of the Full-time MBA programme. The host organisation identifies an important management issue that is then tackled, over a period of between two to three months, by a small team of MBA students. The project findings and recommendations are formally presented to the host organisation along with a written report.
The Consultancy Project is an excellent opportunity to engage in meaningful, practical research, carried out by highly talented students. Companies also benefit from the significant expertise of academic members of staff.
What type of projects are possible?
Projects can cover any aspect of management and may, in principle, be located in any commercial, industrial, public sector or non-profit organisation whether in the UK or abroad. In all cases, project confidentiality is respected where requested.
Here are just a few examples of recent projects in which MBA students have been involved:
- Market study for a French chateau importing wines into Scotland
- Financial feasibility study of entry into the Chinese and Japanese markets for a locally-based web design company
- Project assessment for relocation for a process manufacturing company based in Edinburgh
- Study to improve the effectiveness of the collection of donations for a local charity
- Market assessment of the export potential for a new essential oil from an island in Indonesia
