Thanks to generous donations from alumni of the School, the following prizes are available annually to members of staff.

The Stanislaw Award
The Joseph A Stanislaw Research Award worth $10,000 (approximately £6000) per year has been established thanks to a generous donation from University of Edinburgh graduate, Dr Joseph A Stanislaw (PhD Economics 1977).
The award supports research in the area of energy and its sustainable development and growth, by a member of faculty in The University of Edinburgh Business School.
Dr Stanislaw achieved his PhD in Economics from the University of Edinburgh in 1977, following his BA from Harvard University
Recipients of the Prize to date:
- 2006 - for the project Cross country comparisons of global oil and gas risks
- 2007 - for the project The Organizational Implications of the Verification of Greenhouse Gas Emissions
- 2008 - for the project Oil Price Shocks and Financial Markets
- 2009 - for the project How have Clean Development Mechanism energy projects been financed
The Thomson Prize
The Thomson Prize worth £6000 has been established thanks to a generous donation from two University of Edinburgh graduates, Ben Thomson (BSc Physics) and Lucy Thomson (MBA), to reward the best published research by a member of faculty in the University of Edinburgh Business School.
The purpose of the Prize is to reward the highest level research undertaken by staff in the School.
Recipients of the Prize to date:
- 2005 - for the article Running to Keep in the Same Place: Consumer Choice as a Game of Status, The American Economic Review, Vol 94, No 4, September 2004, pp1085-1107, with
- 2007 - for the article Face Facts: accounting, feminism and the business of beauty Critical Perspectives on Accounting, Vol 17, pp 87-108, 2006.
- 2008 - the prize was split equally between the following two papers:
- for the article The Going-Concern Market Anomaly Journal of Accounting Research, 2009, Vol 47, No. 1 with Professor Vineet Agarwal
- for the article Contracts as Reference Points Quarterly Journal of Economics, 2008, Vol CXXIII, No. 1, Pos 1-48 with Professor Oliver Hart
