Edinburgh is a lovely place to spend your university years. Choosing to study business studies at Edinburgh was easy for me given its renowned reputation for research and teaching but the city is also very friendly and inviting.
There is a big student population in Edinburgh so you really get a sense of community and there are so many things to keep you occupied… namely the shops, museums and galleries, festivals and the buzzing nightlife.
One of the best things about the undergraduate programme is the flexibility and variety of subjects that you can study. From marketing to management science, economics to entrepreneurship, you are introduced to a wide range of topics and in later years, you can pick the subjects that you really enjoy and study them in-depth.
Other merits of reading Business Studies at the School include the friendly and approachable staff; the diverse mix of students; the excellent facilities; and the range of different teaching formats. In addition to lectures, students engage in presentations, group project work and interactive tutorials/seminars.
It’s not all about having your head stuck inside textbooks though. There is a real effort at Edinburgh to prepare students for their future careers by building on key skills and undertaking practical exercises. For example, I was involved in preparing a business plan for a start-up business, and planning and actually making a prototype board game which was presented to current board game manufacturers.
And it was all so much fun. There are dozens of societies and sports clubs to get involved in. I have made some wonderful friends and my time at Edinburgh is one that I’ll never forget.
