Why did you choose to study at the University of Edinburgh Business School?
I chose the University of Edinburgh Business School because it offered the rare combination of academic prestige, professional relevance and an outstanding environment in which to grow. The University consistently ranks among the world’s top universities, and the Business School holds triple accreditation.
My decision was reinforced by conversations with several graduates of the Business School. They spoke very highly of both the institution and their experience, in particular how flexible the programme is in adapting to individual’s interests and objectives.
I also knew that Edinburgh would be the perfect location to pursue a Master’s program. It is one of the most beautiful cities with rich cultural heritage, with a university with an international student body meaning that I would be learning alongside people from a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives.
How have the teaching and learning methods in Scotland compared with those in your home country?
The teaching and learning style has felt noticeably more application-based and practical than what I was used to at home. I have really enjoyed group assignments. Working with classmates from various countries has enabled me to appreciate and embrace different perspectives. People approach the same problem in different ways and the learning to combine those viewpoints has been one of the most rewarding parts of my experience.
The enthusiasm of the teaching staff in helping students adapt to a new environment has also been impressive. They are supportive and motivating and demonstrate a sincere concern for each student’s progress rather than just teaching the material.
What I have valued most of all though, is knowing that there is always someone in the university community to help you, something that has meant a great deal to me as an international student.
What industry engagement activities have you been involved in?
I have actively participated in industry-related events, with two experiences being particularly memorable.
The first was being selected for the career and employability trek to London. It gave me exposure to how different industries operate and the chance to learn directly from people a few steps ahead of me. We heard from an alumni panel who spoke honestly about their careers, including the mistakes and uncertainties as well as the successes.
The second experience that stands out has been my role as a student ambassador. It has been the time I value the most, largely because it gave me the chance to help prospective and new students who were exactly where I once was. Guiding them through their questions and uncertainties and being able to support and reassure them was genuinely rewarding.
Being a student ambassador made me feel like an active part of the community rather than just a student passing through.
What kind of accommodation are you living in and why did you choose that option?
I live in the newest university accommodation called McLeod Street which was the perfect choice for an international student. Moving to a new country brings countless things to figure out, so having the essentials looked after made settling in far less daunting and the modern facilities made daily life easy. The sense of community mattered just as much, surrounding myself with fellow students from the start. My role as a Resident Assistant deepened this further, letting me help other residents feel the same belonging I had found.
Have you travelled to other parts of Scotland or the UK?
One of the things I have loved most about studying here is how easy it is to explore. I found Glasgow had a warmth and energy all of its own, brilliant for a lively day out with friends. And just a short drive away was St Andrews, were we wandered through the old town to the famous golf course before ending up on West Sands beach.
Further south, London gave me the scale and fast pace of a global city, while York felt like stepping back in time, wandering the medieval city walls and the narrow historic streets including the Shambles.
Exploring alongside friends has made settling into life here all the more memorable.
Do you have any tips for people considering applying?
My time at the Business School has been the best student experience, exceeding all my expectations, so apply with confidence. The most valuable thing was connecting with alumni while applying - a genuine conversation gives you a candid picture that no website can replicate, so reach out to graduates and current students.
I would also say start early, so you can make decisions carefully rather than in a rush. And never underestimate research - it helps you understand the programme and shows exactly why you will belong.
