The following guidelines apply to prospective students interested in a PhD in Financial Technology at the Business School.

1. Check entry requirements

Before applying for a project, please consider whether you meet the minimum academic requirements for the PhD in Financial Technology.

2. Propose a supervisor and subject group

Review staff profiles to ensure supervision for your own research can be secured and state your chosen subject group.

3. Review required documents

For those wishing to research their own project you must submit a research proposal. For those applying for an industry project you must submit a cover letter as part of your application (instead of the research proposal) along with other necessary documents.

4. Submit your application

Applications are only accepted through our online application portal. If applying for an industry project please state the name of the project on your application.

Important points to remember

  • When completing your online application, you can save your progress and continue at a later date
  • For your application to be processed, you must provide all required documents during submission. Please check the portal regularly after submitting your application as we may require additional information. We will not be able to process your application if there is any missing documentation. Failure to respond may result in rejection of your application as incomplete
  • You will receive a Universal Username (UUN) at the end of the application process, which should be used in all correspondence with us
  • In your application, we firmly advise you to propose a supervisor (or up to three) as part of your application. This will increase your chances of an offer. Please also state the academic subject group you wish to work in.
  • In the Proposed Supervisor section of the online application, you must name your potential supervisor(s) in order of preference
  • If you require a visa, we recommend you submit your online application at least four months prior to the programme start date
  • If you wish to be considered for any of our scholarships please complete your application first, then apply to the scholarship opportunity before it closes
