Background

BSc (Liverpool); PhD (Liverpool).

After a mathematics degree, and a doctorate in numerical geophysics, Paul undertook research in ice-sheet modelling and groundwater flow at Edinburgh, whilst employed on an EC funded project "Simulation of the effects of long-term climatic change on groundwater flow and the safety of geological disposal sites".

An increasing interest in the uses of IT in teaching and research prompted a move to computer system management in 1995, first as a Unix system administrator, then subsequently to managing Novell servers and Microsoft Windows PC network.

Paul joined the "School of Economics, Accounting and Management Studies", forerunner of the current Business School, in 1996. Since that time, the School has grown in significantly in both size and aspiration, and the IT base that Paul and his team maintain has similarly grown in size and scope. As well as Team Leader management responsibilities, Paul has a particular interest in the use of information technology to enhance administrative efficiency.
