Research Topic
Digital transformation in museums: microfoundations and materiality of change
Research Summary
My research explores how museums deal with the digital shift. Namely, I am studying, through the lenses of materiality, how digital transformation alters the relationships between actors (both humans and objects) and, as such, affects institutional permanence and change at multiple levels of analysis (field, organizational, individual), translating into heterogeneous digitalization outcomes. Focusing on the museum field allows me to explore digital transformation in a sector where the relationality of actors and objects and the materiality of the artifacts, such as artworks, catalogs, and buildings, are central.
