Background

Matteo Ronzani joined the Business School in 2023 as Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor). Previously, he held academic positions at the Alliance Manchester Business School (AMBS) and the University of Edinburgh School of Social and Political Science. Matteo received his PhD from the University of Edinburgh in 2019, his MSc from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2015, and his BA in Philosophy from San Raffaele University (Milan) in 2013.

Matteo’s interdisciplinary research is situated at the intersection of accounting and organization theory. He investigates how ideas, practices, and calculative technologies travel and their effects and unintended consequences in organizations, institutions, and society. His work has been published in journals that include Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal, Accounting, Organizations and Society, Organization Studies, Research in the Sociology of Organizations, and The British Accounting Review.

Matteo frequently serves as an ad hoc reviewer for leading accounting and management journals, including Accounting, Organizations and Society, Journal of Business Venturing, Organization Studies, and The Accounting Review.

Matteo’s research is qualitative and interdisciplinary, focusing primarily on the following broad areas of study and topics:  

  • Performance measurement and management control
  • Sociology of quantification and economic sociology 
  • Gamification, algorithmic control, and surveillance
  • Representation, multimodality, and data visualization
