Background
Mengfei holds the position of Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Finance at the University of Edinburgh Business School. She obtained her MSc (Econ) in Finance and Investment Management from the University of Aberdeen and completed her PhD in Carbon Finance at the University of Edinburgh. Mengfei's academic journey includes working as a Research Fellow on the BHP CCS Project at the University of Edinburgh Business School from 2018 to 2020, followed by a role as a Research Associate at Heriot-Watt University's Edinburgh Business School until 2022. She is also affiliated with the UKRI Interdisciplinary Centre for Circular Chemical Economy and the UK-China (Guangdong) CCUS Centre as an Associate Member.
As an interdisciplinary researcher, Mengfei has contributed to various research projects, including the UKRI VaCoBD project, Carbon Emission Modelling of Energy Systems for Retrofit, funded by the SFC and RGC, and Enabling the Legal and Regulatory Framework for Large-scale CCUS Projects in Guangdong, China, funded by the UK FCO and Guangdong DRC etc. She also provided consulting services for the World Bank Group-funded projects Developing a Linkage Readiness Carbon Market in China, and Clean and Energy Efficient Cooling for Livestock Supply Chains in Bangladesh.
Mengfei's research interests encompass a wide range of topics. She focuses on carbon pricing and other climate change and energy policies. Her work extends to exploring emerging issues in low-carbon project financing, such as financial modelling, risk management, and stakeholders' perspectives on financial solutions. Mengfei also has a keen interest in understanding the connections between climate change mitigation and corporate strategies and decision-making.
