Background

Mengfei is a Lecturer in Finance at the University of Edinburgh Business School. She has an MSc(Econ) in Finance and Investment Management from the University of Aberdeen and a PhD in Carbon Finance from the University of Edinburgh. Mengfei worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh Business School on the BHP CCS Project from 2018 to 2020; then, she worked as a Research Associate at Heriot-Watt University's Edinburgh Business School until 2022. She is also an Associate Member of the UKRI Interdisciplinary Centre for Circular Chemical Economy and the UK-China (Guangdong) CCUS Centre.

Mengfei is an interdisciplinary researcher who has worked on several research projects, such as the UKRI VaCoBD project, Carbon Emission Modelling of Energy Systems for Retrofit, funded by the SFC and RGC, and Enabling the Legal and Regulatory Framework for Large-scale CCUS Projects in Guangdong, China, funded by the UK FCO and Guangdong DRC etc. She also provided consulting services for the World Bank Group-funded projects Developing a Linkage Readiness Carbon Market in China, and Clean and Energy Efficient Cooling for Livestock Supply Chains in Bangladesh.

Her research interests include carbon pricing and policy interactions between climate change and energy policies, as well as emerging issues in low-carbon project financing, such as financial modelling, risk management, and stakeholders' perceptions of financial solutions. She is also interested in the links between climate change mitigation and corporates' strategy/decision-making.
