Background
Sascha joined the University of Edinburgh Business School as a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Finance in February 2022. He holds a master's degree in mechanical engineering and business administration and a PhD in Finance, both from the Technical University of Darmstadt.
Prior to joining the University of Edinburgh, Sascha worked as a Post-doc Researcher at the Technical University of Darmstadt. He also worked for more than four years at AIG, first as an Underwriter M&A and then as a Senior Underwriter M&A, covering private equity and corporate transactions as well as real estate deals in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. During and following his postgraduate studies, he completed internships in the area of equity derivatives at Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley in London.
Research Interests
Sascha's primary interest is in empirical corporate finance, with a particular focus M&As and IPOs. He is also interested in the interplay between credit rating agencies and capital markets, especially with a view on credit default swaps. He further conducts research at the intersection of law and finance, such as the impact of regulation as well as lawsuits and their settlements on firm performance and behavior.
His work has been published in prominent international journals such as the Journal of Corporate Finance, the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, and the Journal of Banking & Finance. He also regularly presents his research papers at international conferences, including the Financial Management Association (FMA) Conferences and the European Financial Management Association (EFMA) Annual Meeting.
