British Sign Language service
British Sign Language Scotland runs a service for British Sign Language users and all of Scotland's public bodies using video relay. This enables sign language users to contact public bodies and vice versa. The service operates from 8am to 12 midnight, 7 days a week.

The University of Edinburgh Business School is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
- Our social media icon links and image links through to old news articles do not have a text description
- Labels on form submission buttons are missing
- Not all images have alternative text
- Not all our PDFs and Word documents meet accessibility standards
- Not all video will have subtitles or subtitles that identify all speakers as well as noting other significant sounds, e.g. laughter
- Our maps and some video content uses HTML to format content. Some are embedded in iframes that specify height, width, or other presentational attributes, contrary to WCAG 1.3.1.
- Some information on overview pages does not meet the minimum contrast level for AA compliance.
- It is not possible to use a keyboard to access all the content
- It is not always clear which field is being selected when using the keyboard to navigate, including some form functions.
We aim to have a complete solution to these issues, or a significant improvement, in place by September 2020.
Content that's not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
It is unlikely that the maps displayed on this website are fully accessible with all assistive technologies. Maps are currently not within the scope of the regulations, however all our maps do feature on pages alongside a text-based version of the address.
PDFs and other documents
Many of our older PDFs and Word documents do not meet accessibility standards. For example, they may not be structured so they're accessible to a screen reader. This does not meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value).
While the majority of our PDFs and Word documents contain information available elsewhere on the website, we do have some material in PDF/Word document format that are used for informational, archival, and/or submission purposes.
We are in discussions with teams regarding the viability of PDFs and Word documents as featured on our website, and are working to minimise the number of these on our website and/or make them available in another accessible format.
However, the accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they're not essential to providing our services.
Going forward, we will try to ensure any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards and where we find any that are not accessible we will try to rectify this as soon as possible.
How we tested this website
This website was last tested on 1 October 2019. The test was carried out by the Business School Web Team using an automated tool: WAVE, the Web Accessibility Evaluation Tool.
What we're doing to improve accessibility
- We're planning to move our existing subsites to a new Content Management System in early 2020 and rebuild them to be compliant with WCAG 2.0 Level AA. We hope to complete the move of all subsites by September 2020
- We are working on accessibility policies to be added to our existing web strategy and policy documents and which will be shared with staff requesting changes
- A limited number of users have access to edit our site. Therefore, we have minimised the opportunity for non-accessible content to be uploaded going forward
- We are participating in initiatives led by the Universtiy of Edinburgh to promote awareness of and compliance with accessibility legislation in order to benefit the users of our websites
