How did your degree prepare you for your career?
I came to the Business School with no financial or business background. Completing the degree in Climate Change Finance and Investment gave me confidence in my understanding of both key financial concepts and the current state of the sustainable finance market.
Once familiar with the contextual knowledge required, the degree pushed me to develop the skills necessary to identify the challenges faced across the financial sector and ultimately combat climate change.

What notable changes has your degree enabled you to make in your professional or personal life?
Undertaking my degree in Climate Change Finance and Investment gave me the necessary skills and knowledge to shift my career path.
Since joining the Green Finance team at The Carbon Trust, I have been able to work with a range of financial institutions, ensuring that sustainability is sufficiently integrated into their investments and the decisions they make.

Since completing my degree, I have had the pleasure of working with a range of financial institutions globally, helping investors understand the impact of how they are allocating their capital and further allowing them to make more informed decisions as a result.
This includes developing sustainable finance frameworks, setting science-based targets for financial institutions, helping raise capacity for understanding climate risks and opportunities, and ensuring that dispersed credit is being used as intended.
How did your studies at the Business School help you to make those changes?
Studying at the Business School gave me the knowledge and practical skills to confidently discuss complex problems and ultimately shift my career into a new sector.
What key things that you learnt at the Business School do you still rely on today?
At the Business School I was able to participate in the Edinburgh Award. This taught me a number of soft skills to ultimately make myself more employable.
Course highlights and advice
What are your best memories on the programme?
The highlight of my degree was being able to work with real organisations working to address climate change.
Completing a module with the African Development Bank, I gained insight into how to apply the skills I was developing to a project that would produce real impact.
This was also the case for my client sourced dissertation. Working with the International Institute for Environment and Development, and architectural firm Arket, I was able to put my time and energy into contributing towards a climate change solution.
