Centralized Ownership and Societal Challenges: On the limits of Sustainable Finance
Research Summary
My PhD research looks at how Asset Management Firms (often described as Common and Universal Owners) have integrated Environmental and Societal challenges into their day-to-day practices, with a specific focus on Climate Change. This offers insights into the wider field of Sustainable Finance and how it has disrupted the status quo of Finance over time. Learning from the successes and failures of this transition is key for our understanding of which role Finance can play in the decarbonization of our economy.
These insights also trigger broader questions on whether the political and economic system that Finance is embedded in allows it (or any other field) to play much of a Stewardship role in this transition. I deal with these questions in my interdisciplinary work on Neoliberalism, Market Societies, and Post-Growth.
