Murillo Campello

Murillo Campello

Professor Murillo Campello is an internationally recognized scholar of Financial Economics, Campello’s papers have been cited by prominent policy authorities, such as the Federal Reserve chairman, mentioned in Congressional hearings, described in the “Economic Report of the President,” and used to advise the U.S. Supreme Court. His work on the Financial Crisis and Covid-19, in particular, has been widely featured in the financial press (Financial Times, Reuters, The Wall Street Journal), books, and academic outlets.

Professor Campello is an Eminent Scholar in Finance at the University of Florida. He is the Managing Editor of The Journal of Financial Intermediation. He is also a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research and a Director of Research at the Judge Business School at the University of Cambridge. He earned his PhD in Finance from the University of Illinois, an MS in Business Administration from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, and a BS in Economics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.

Angus Cockburn

Angus Cockburn

Angus Cockburn is currently Chair of The Edrington Group, a company based in Scotland but operating across the globe and owned by a charitable Trust, which owns a number of well known spirits brands including The Macallan, Highland Park and Brugal. He is also Chair of James Fisher & Sons a UK listed marine services business. In terms of other non-Executive roles, Angus is the Senior Independent director on Ashtead plc and sits on the Board of BAE Systems plc both of which are in the FTSE 30 based in London. Prior to this, Angus was Managing Director of Pringle of Scotland before spending 14 years as Chief Financial Officer of Aggreko plc followed by 7 years as Chief Financial Officer of Serco plc. Angus has also served in a non-Executive capacity on the Boards of GKN plc, Howdens and STS Global Income and Trust plc. He is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh and has an MBA from IMD Business School in Switzerland and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland. Angus’ main interests are around selecting the right strategy for growing internationally, the challenges of turnaround and developing financial strategy in listed companies.

James Clunie

James Clunie

James is Director at Long-Short Consulting Limited, providing consultancy on investment process design and risk management.

Prior to this, he worked as an investment manager, specializing in long/short global equities. He has been Head of Strategy, Absolute Return at Jupiter Asset Management; Investment Director at Scottish Widows Investment Partnership; Head of Global Equities at Aberdeen Asset Management; and Head of Asset Allocation at Murray Johnstone International. James has served on investment committees and trustee boards for several charities and pension funds.

He was also a Senior Lecturer in Finance at the University of Edinburgh, where he set up their MSc in Finance and Investment. He served as Programme Director, and lectured on topics including Financial Markets, Portfolio Management & Investment Analysis, and Cases in Finance and Investment. The MSc programme was awarded the Scottish Financial Enterprise Innovators Award in 2005. James has published a series of books and journal articles on topics such as short-selling, risk assessment and complex financial products. He also co-authored the CFA Level III Reading 21: Overview of Equity Management.

James earned his PhD in Management from the University of Edinburgh in 2009, and has been a CFA Charterholder since 1995. He is an Honorary Professor at the University of Edinburgh.

Marc Cowling

Marc Cowling

Professor Marc Cowling has a PhD in Business Economics from Warwick Business School and an MSc Economics from London University. He is currently ranked in the top 5% of economists in the world by citations (H-index) according to Research Publications in Economics (REPEC, February 6th 2025). He has published over 100 academic journal articles and reports for national and supra-national governments and agencies in relation to SME finance. His main research interests are small business survival and growth, financing and investment. He is Professor of Economics and Productivity at Oxford Brookes Business School in the UK.

Charles Hendry

Charles Hendry

Charles Hendry graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a BComm (Hons) in 1981.

After a career in marketing and public relations, he was elected to Parliament in 1992-97 as Conservative MP for High Peak and subsequently as MP for Wealden from 2001-2015.

He was Minister of State for Energy & Climate Change from May 2010 until September 2012. Having previously been the Conservative Party’s spokesperson on energy issues for five years, he held the portfolio for longer than any other spokesperson.

On leaving Ministerial office, Prime Minister David Cameron appointed him as his Trade Envoy to Central Asia. He was awarded the CBE in Her Majesty the Queen’s 2019 Birthday Honours for his work in supporting British Trade in the former Soviet Union.

He was also appointed an Honorary Professor at the University of Edinburgh Business School, which includes lecturing on the Climate Change Masters course on energy and climate policy and international negotiations. Charles has been President of the British Institute of Energy Economics; Vice-President of the Energy Institute; a Distinguished Fellow at the Atlantic Council; and Patron of the Nuclear Institute.

He works extensively across the energy sector, primarily focusing on the transition to Net Zero and has also undertaken various roles on behalf of Government, including writing the Independent Review of Tidal Lagoons in 2017.

He is a Trustee of the Burrell Museum in Glasgow.

Toshihiko Ishihara

Toshihiko Ishihara

Professor Toshihiko Ishihara is currently the Vice President of Kwansei Gakuin University, Japan and a professor at its Business School. He is a certified public accountant in Japan and a Fellow chartered public finance accountant (FCPFA) in the United Kingdom. He has served as a council member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accounting (CIPFA) in the United Kingdom for many years and is currently the CIPFA Japan President. His research areas include accounting, auditing, public management, university management and hospital management. Approximately 20 doctoral degree holders have graduated from Professor Ishihara's laboratory. Many of them are currently serving as professors, associate professors or assistant professors at universities in Japan. They are guiding students and continuing their academic research activities with Ishihara laboratory members.

Professor Ishihara's research objective is to develop a logic for applying private sector management methods to public service organisations. The key words here are ‘value creation and co-creation.’ How can we integrate the usefulness of financial figures derived from accounting expertise with qualitative factors such as value? In decision-making and performance evaluation, this integrated data and framework will be extremely important.

Professor Ishihara has established a strong research network with Professor Stephen Osborne of UEBS. In 2017, Professor Ishihara held a workshop on public management in Osaka, Japan with Professor Osborne. Seven researchers from the UK attended the workshop as presenters. In 2024, Professor Ishihara invited Professor Osborne to Japan for two months as a visiting professor at Kwansei Gakuin University.

Guy Jubb

Guy Jubb

Guy has had an influential career in accounting, auditing, and investment, with a focus on governance and stewardship. He was part of the leadership team at Standard Life Investments, a leading active institutional investor, for 30 years until he stepped down as Global Head of Governance & Stewardship in 2016.

During his tenure, he played a key role in the development of regulation and best practices while being recognized as a thought leader. He has served on numerous committees, including the Investment Committee of the Association of British Insurers (ABI), the Companies Committee of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), and the Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS). Additionally, he has acted as an advisor to the PCAOB, the US audit regulator, serving two terms on its Standing Advisory Group.

Thereafter, Guy strengthened his ties with the academic community. Since 2017, he has been an Honorary Professor at the University and is also a Director at the Brussels-based European Corporate Governance Institute, which facilitates policy impact for governance research by prominent academics. Guy contributes to professional literature, ranging from a paper on the ethical aspects of financial reporting published by the Institute of Business Ethics to a guest blog for the UK's Institute of Directors examining the future of the 'comply or explain' reporting concept. Furthermore, Guy serves as a Non-Executive of Forvis Mazars LLP, a major auditing and professional services firm and is Council Director of the Conference Board’s Corporate Governance Council.

Jayne Jones

Jayne Jones, is Chair of the Public Sector Catering Alliance, and her long term commitment is to continue to work in partnership with a range of stakeholders to make systems shifts and improvements in public sector food by taking a sustainable food systems approach.

Jayne is also Assistant Director for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde with responsibility for all Soft FM Services including catering, cleaning and portering services. Over the past ten years, Jayne has participated in a number of Scottish Government steering groups including those developing Local Food Strategies, ending the need for foodbanks in Scotland, and in developing proposals for the next Scottish Organic Food Action Plan. She also sat on the Social Renewal Advisory Board’s Food Circle and has been actively involved in the development of the Good Food Nation Act, adding a public food perspectiveto discussions. Jayne is past Chair of ASSIST FM and is currently a member of the Hospital Caterers Association. Jayne was previously recognised as one of the UK Public Sector Catering's Most Influential People in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2024, won the Public Sector Catey in 2023 and is a 2021 Acumen Academy UK Fellow.

Alex Sanchez

Alex Sanchez is an accomplished leader and visionary in the financial industry, best known for his role as the Founder, President, and CEO of Salva Financial Group of Florida. In 2024, Sanchez ventured into entrepreneurship by founding Salva Financial Group of Florida. His firm offers strategic consulting to financial institutions, focusing on strategy and regulatory compliance. Concurrently, he serves as an Executive Advisor at Nasdaq, contributing to global capital market services.

Sanchez also holds significant board positions. He joined the Board of Directors for Popular Bank and Republic Bank and Trust, where he applies his expertise in audit, risk management, and talent compensation. Previously, Sanchez provided guidance to the Exim Bank Advisory Committee and the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board, where he managed investments for government and military personnel under two presidential administrations.

Demonstrating a commitment to education, Sanchez was appointed an Honorary Professor at the University of Edinburgh Business School in 2024. Further to this he is involved in community service, as evidenced by his role on the board of the Apalachee Center Inc., supporting North Florida’s mental health and substance abuse recovery initiatives.

Mike Wareing

Mike Wareing

Professor Mike Wareing is a highly respected figure in global business and governance, known for his extensive experience as a FTSE Chairman, Senior Independent Director, and Non-Executive Committee Chair. His career highlights include serving as the Global CEO of KPMG and undertaking complex assignments for the UK Government, reporting directly to the Prime Minister. Professor Wareing was Chairman of the Strategic Board for the Centre for Business, Climate Change, and Sustainability at the University of Edinburgh Business School. As an Honorary Professor, he contributes to the MSc Global Strategy & Sustainability program.

He chaired Cobham Plc from January 2017 until July 2019, having been a Senior Independent Director and Audit Chair, successfully overseeing a 97% approved takeover bid. Prior to this, Professor Wareing's career at KPMG culminated in his role as Global CEO until 2009, after leading the Europe, Middle East & Africa division. At KPMG he was Chairman of the Global Executive and the Latin American and Russian Boards.

Professor Wareing provided pro bono service as an International Investment Advisor to the Government of Afghanistan, reporting to then-Prime Minister David Cameron between 2011 and 2015. His contributions as the Prime Minister’s Envoy for Reconstruction in Southern Iraq earned him the CMG honour. Further to this, his leadership extended to various organizations, including Chairmanships at Business in the Community International and NGOs like Project Compass and Fit for the Future, where he promoted UK competitiveness.
