As our Class of 2024 reach the end of their studies at the University of Edinburgh Business School, Jo and Marco share their tips for what to do next…
Graduates celebrating outside McEwan Hall, The University of Edinburgh

Jo McLaren: “This is a really exciting time as you begin your job search after graduation. My advice first of all would be to network, network, network! Make sure you use LinkedIn to your advantage and grow your professional network, following businesses that you're interested in, and make sure you connect with the Business School on LinkedIn too! Whether it’s members of the Student Development team, your academic professors or Business School alumni that you've worked with during your time here.

My second tip would be to remember that you can still come along to many events within the Business School after graduating. So look out for any alumni events or events hosted by the Student Development team coming up in the future. We warmly welcome you back on campus after you graduate.

Tip number three would be to remember that if you need further support, the Student Development team are here to help you with career one-to-ones. If you need to practise for an interview that you have coming up or are reviewing your CV or cover letter, we're here to help you and our door is always open.

I wish you the very best in your job search strategy and look forward to seeing where your studies take you!”

Marco Rossi: “I second what Jo has said. Stay in touch with the Student Development team because we're always here to give you one-to-one support whenever you need it.

But also, I would say be curious, be open-minded and be engaged with your field. And what I mean by that on a practical level is following certain people that you're interested in on LinkedIn, following certain companies, and being members of communities and groups within the Business School and the alumni communities is a no-brainer. There are lots of insights you can gain from exploring those groups and going to those events so it’s worth staying engaged. You might also come across opportunities that you wouldn't have otherwise seen.

My final message is to say a massive congratulations to you all for graduating and remember to take a few moments to give yourself a pat on the back and celebrate that amazing achievement!
