The University of Edinburgh Business School provides a range of employment and personal development opportunities for students to explore while studying here. Khushi (MSc Marketing) shares just some the experiences she's been involved in since joining in September 2022, and how they add to her sense of achievement.

As I stepped off the plane and made my way through the airport last September, I felt a sense of both excitement and nervousness. After all, I was about to start a new adventure: doing my Masters in Marketing at the prestigious University of Edinburgh Business School. From the moment I stepped on campus, I was determined to seize every opportunity that comes my way and learn as much as I could. And let me tell you, the past few months have been some of the most enriching experiences of my life!

It all started when I applied for a Digital Marketing Internship at the University of Edinburgh Information Services Group. I was thrilled when I got the job, and it has been an incredible experience so far. I have had the chance to work on a variety of projects, from creating social media content to filming graduate interviews. It has been a great opportunity to apply what I’m learning in my classes to a real-world setting, and it’s something that I know would be valuable in my future career.

In addition to my internship, another exciting role that I have undertaken is being a Student Ambassador for the Business School. My role involves representing the Business School, engaging with prospective students, sharing my experiences and answering their questions about the University. This role has provided me the chance to give back to the School that has given me so much, and it has been incredibly rewarding to help others navigate their academic journeys.

I have also been elected as the Programme Representative of my cohort by my peers. As the programme representative, I am the voice of my cohort. This means I regularly attend meetings where I provide feedback and suggestions on behalf of my classmates, and work with faculty members to implement changes that will benefit our teaching. It has been a great way to get more involved in the academic side of things and make a positive impact while helping me develop my leadership skills.

A final extracurricular activity that I am proud to be a part of is the SpeakEasy Committee, where I serve as the Marketing head. The committee is designed to help students improve their presentation and public speaking skills, something that I know is incredibly important in the business world. I have had the opportunity to organise events and workshops to help students develop their communication skills, and it has been a fulfilling experience to help others grow and succeed.

While reflecting on all of these incredible opportunities that I have gained while studying at the Business School, I can’t help but feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. Yes, adapting to a new environment and managing multiple responsibilities has been a learning curve, but it has also taught me important time management and prioritisation skills. I've gained so much valuable experience, met so many incredible people, and I’m grateful for everything I've learned so far. All in all, my time at the Business School has been nothing short of amazing, and these opportunities have not only enriched my academic experience but also prepared me for whatever the future may hold!
