My research interest relies on practical operations planning problems that arise in humanitarian logistics settings, e.g., distribution of emergency commodities in post-disaster situations; location-allocation under social concerns in both pre- and post-disaster phases; supply chain design towards to coordinate operational and tactical decisions over the disaster cycle life, among others. Most problems involve the treatment of diverse uncertainty parameters, such as demand, supply and costs, which are usually modelled via optimisation under uncertainty techniques, in which stochastic programming and/or robust optimisation are two popular examples. We are particularly interested in contextualising new problems, formulating the corresponding optimisation models, solving them, and analysing the numerical results from the disaster management viewpoint, focusing on practical disasters. I also have a special interest in mathematical modelling and optimisation of a variety of problems including transportation/logistics and production planning/manufacturing.
