Roles and Responsibilities

Rania joined the University of Edinburgh Business School as a Chair in Accounting in June 2024. She was previously a professor of accounting at Heriot Watt University since 2012. Rania is the Deputy head of Accounting and Finance department at the University of Edinburgh Business School

Background

Rania's research focuses on the social and political aspects of accounting, as well as critical accounting and accountability. Her work is influenced by critical and postcolonial theorising, concentrating on issues such as gender, Islam, and the Middle East. Rania’s research has contributed to a broader understanding of how accounting practices and policies intersect with social and cultural contexts. Rania serves on the editorial boards of Critical Perspectives on Accounting, Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal, and Accounting and Business Research. Rania has published articles in leading academic journals like Accounting, Organization and Society, Contemporary Accounting Research, Critical Perspectives on Accounting, and Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal.
