Cultivating a Collaborative Mentality Headshot

Evie Chamberlain

MSc Marketing 2014

Alumni 100
Experiential Marketing and Promotions Manager, FIFA

Before joining FIFA, the overarching organisation for the world's biggest participation sport, Evie supported the commercial and marketing development at a much more local level—for an Edinburgh curling club.

How does it feel to be selected for the Alumni 100 list?

"It's a delightful surprise! Maintaining my connection to the Business School after graduation has meant a lot to me, and it's lovely to feel appreciated."

What made you choose to study at the University of Edinburgh Business School?

"The combination of interesting courses, a welcoming international environment, and the charm of the city of Edinburgh were what brought me to study at the University of Edinburgh Business School."

What are your memories of studying at the Business School?

"I remember it being very challenging but also rewarding. It was hard to get back into the swing of academic life after working for a few years, but it was really enjoyable to push myself and dive right in. Meeting people from all over the world was such an amazing experience, and I loved learning from and about my classmates."

What's the one thing you think current students need to develop or learn before entering the modern workplace?

"In my programme, we had so many group projects. I would really encourage students to use those to develop not only their academic skills, but cultivate a collaborative mentality. You'll be much more successful and create a better product—and further your career—if you're able to perform well and bring out your best skills in a team environment."

What key thing that you learnt at the Business School do you still rely on today?

"My degree gave me the building blocks I needed to make the next steps in my career; it helped me add theory and understanding to my existing work experience."

Proudest work-related achievement to date?

"Definitely bringing together my degree (I did my dissertation on how sports fans become loyal to their team) and my work experience to land a dream job at FIFA!"

You'll be much more successful if you're able to perform well and bring out your best skills in a team environment.
