Scholarship criteria
We are pleased to offer the Business School Access Scholarship to candidates who:
- Meet at least one of our widening participation criteria.
- Can demonstrate strong academic performance.
- Have strong motivation for the postgraduate degree applied for.
- Clearly articulate their future ambitions and goals.
Eligibility
You can apply for the scholarship once you have received an offer (conditional or unconditional) to join one of the eligible programmes and have either firmly accepted the offer or are intending to do so.
The scholarship selection panel will only be able to consider your scholarship application if you hold an active offer throughout your scholarship application process (meaning if your offer is declined at any point up until the scholarship decision deadline you will no longer be eligible). You can only apply to the scholarship once per admissions cycle.
You can request an extension to your deposit payment deadline on the basis of awaiting the outcome of this Business School Access Scholarship application.
- You must be a UK national domiciled in the UK.
In addition you must meet at least one of the following eligibility criteria:
- You are care-experienced. We define care experience as any time spent in care at any stage of your life. Care may have been provided in one of many different settings, such as if you were:
- in residential care
- in foster care
- in kinship care
- looked after at home with a supervision requirement
- You were/are in receipt of a Maintenance Grant as an undergraduate (if you started your undergraduate course after August 2016 you will need to provide evidence from the Student Loans Company to confirm your household income was assessed as £40,000 or less)
- You were/are in receipt of a Young Students' Bursary, an Independent Students' Bursary, or a Care Experienced Students' Bursary as an undergraduate—as assessed by Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS)
- You live in an area within the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation lowest 20% (SIMD20)
- You live in an area with an Acorn classification of 5
To check your eligibility for the two postcode criteria above, use the postcode lookup tool. We will use the home address where you lived during your last year of school or college.
Candidates will not be eligible for this scholarship if they:
- Are fully sponsored by an employer.
- Are in receipt of another full scholarship.
- Have already accepted another scholarship from the University of Edinburgh.
- Submit a scholarship application prior to having secured an offer for the study programme.

How to Apply
- Following receipt of an offer of a place on one of our Masters programmes, you can submit an application through the University Scholarship Application system.
Open Date Deadline Decision By 10 March 2025 15 May 2025 16 June 2025 - Please email all supporting documents to futurestudents@ed.ac.uk using The Business School Access Scholarship supporting documentation as the subject. It is your responsibility to submit all appropriate documentation allowing us to consider your application based on the outlined criteria.
Please note it can take up to 10 working days following the submission of a study application for access to be granted.
The online scholarship application form is located in EUCLID and can be accessed via MyEd, our web based information portal.

Conditions
- The scholarship will cover tuition fees only and will be paid directly towards your tuition fee account.
- Scholarships have to be accepted by the deadline defined in the scholarship award letter.
- If you do not accept within the given time frame you will forfeit your scholarship offer. The Business School will then re-allocate this scholarship.
- Any scholarship is automatically withdrawn if you decline your programme offer or fail to meet the conditions set out in your programme offer letter.
- If you receive a scholarship, you will be expected to participate occasionally as an ambassador for the Business School during and after your programme.
- Only one University of Edinburgh scholarship can be accepted.
