This annual collaboration between the Alumni Team and the Student Development Team included 12 programme specific alumni panel events, one for each of the Business School’s in-person MSc programmes.
Alumni shared their experiences of their particular MSc programme as well as life in Edinburgh, before covering advice on topics ranging from networking to group project work, and from dissertation topics to employability including career options and job searching.
Students had the opportunity to ask questions and connect with alumni in sectors of interest with each panel followed by an in-person networking session.
A notable aspect of these panels was the honesty and openness of alumni to share their journeys, providing new students with authentic advice from those who have previously been in their shoes.Eilidh Campbell, Alumni Relations Manager
It’s also an opportunity for the Alumni Team to share the benefits of the alumni network and how they as a team can support students during their studies.
Here are just a few of the tips shared by alumni:
- Come to class with a spirit of openness – you learn so much from such a diverse cohort.
- Focus on yourself, not the person next to you. Your own journey is the one that matters.
- Networking is a muscle that needs to be practiced. Take advantage of opportunities at the Business School.
- Make full use of CV guidance, mock interviews and other sessions offered by the Student Development Team.
- Step out of your comfort zone to maximise opportunities.
- Believe in yourself – if you are at UEBS, then you’ve already proved you can succeed!
The autumn panels season was then concluded with two further alumni panels led by Stella Wang from the Student Development Team, with alumni joining her to share their advice on working in the UK, and on working in international teams, which included alumni from companies including P&G, Amazon and Bloomberg.
