Research Fellow in Food Systems Transformation (Policy and Governance)
Roles and Responsibilities
In my position of research fellow in policy and governance, I am interested in the various processes, stakeholders and relationships that make up the food and drink policymaking landscape in Scotland.
Previous projects include:
- Systems approaches in food policy and research: learning from the Scottish context (PhD thesis, under examination)
- Impact and evidence reviews for the Scottish Food Coalition
Background
My initial education was focused on food science and innovation, although I am also a qualified pastry chef and graduate of the advanced master Interface Cuisine-Industry. I spent over seven years working in the food and drink industry, mostly in new product development and technical customer support, in sectors as varied as chocolate, bakery and salmon. During my time as a practitioner, I was involved with many aspects of small- and large-scale business operations, from production to quality control and marketing. My return to academia was the result of a lifelong interest in the social and cultural aspects of food, and my focus on Scotland stemed from my long affection for my adoptive country and its inhabitants.
