Mentoring is a key pillar of our Coaching Culture, providing opportunities for students and staff to learn from the experience, insight and support of others. Through mentoring, we create meaningful connections that encourage reflection, build confidence and support personal and professional development.

Our UEBS portfolio of mentoring programmes brings together a range of programmes designed to support individuals at different stages of their journey, from undergraduate study through to academic and professional careers.

Our portfolio of mentoring programmes

UEBS Alumni Mentoring Programme

Our flagship mentoring programme supports 3rd and 4th-year undergraduate students by connecting them with experienced UEBS alumni. Mentors provide guidance on career planning, share industry insights and help students build confidence as they prepare for life after graduation, enabling them to take ownership of their development working towards becoming the person they want to be. This programme holds a Quality Award from the Scottish Mentoring Network.

Postgraduate Research (PGR) Peer Mentoring

Delivered in partnership with EUSA as part of the Edinburgh Peer Mentoring scheme, this programme supports first-year PGR students through peer-to-peer mentoring. It offers a valuable source of support during the transition into postgraduate research, helping students settle in and navigate both academic and personal challenges.

PhD Alumni Mentoring (coming soon)

We are developing a new mentoring programme that will connect PhD students with UEBS PhD alumni. This initiative will provide tailored support for doctoral researchers from year 2 onwards as they explore career pathways within and beyond academia, while also helping them navigate the personal and academic challenges of this stage of study.

Staff Mentoring

Mentoring is also available to our staff, supporting professional development and career progression. Our provision includes 1:1 mentoring relationships, with mentoring pools being introduced to further expand opportunities for connection and development across the School.

A connected mentoring community and quality assurance

We are bringing together mentoring activity across the Business School to create a more unified portfolio of programmes for both students and staff. This approach ensures consistency, quality and a shared commitment to development, while strengthening connections across our community.

Our flagship mentoring programme holds a Quality Award from the Scottish Mentoring Network and is informed by our memberships with the Scottish Mentoring Network, Association for Coaching, and EMCC Global. This supports the ongoing sharing of best practice across all of our mentoring provision.
