The course

Why did you choose to study at the University of Edinburgh Business School (UEBS)?

The University of Edinburgh has a great reputation. During an exchange semester in my undergraduate degree, I fell in love with the city and I decided it was the perfect place for me to take a further step in my studies.

What was it about the degree programme that particularly attracted you?

I loved the way it was structured. In the first semester, the programme included a good foundation in finance, before giving me the option to specialise in semester two.

Your career

Can you tell us about your career before and after graduating?

I did my BCom(Hons) Banking and Finance and Insurance at the University of Malta, during which I did an internship at Lloyds Banking Group in Edinburgh.

After graduating from the MSc, I applied for a graduate programme at Fitch Ratings and then became a senior analyst in the utilities team. I was then promoted to Associate Director in March 2024.

I provide investors with insights on current market trends.

How did your degree prepare you for your career?

It gave me a good foundation of knowledge, which I use every day in my job. I also learned how to think critically and solve a problem efficiently.

On top of that, I also had lots of networking opportunities and good exposure on what to expect after the degree. The Business School also provided lots of help on how to prepare a CV and how to approach the interview process.

Masters of Change

What are the changes you have been able to make in your chosen field, of which you are most proud?

It enabled me to provide insight to investors on key topical issues including the electricity generator levy as well as to take difficult decisions on credit ratings, which affect global financial markets.

How did your studies at the Business School help you to make those changes?

The Business School gave me a robust foundation and well-rounded knowledge in corporate finance. I rely on this knowledge every day to support my analytical judgment and understanding when making critical decisions.

It also gave me the efficient writing and communication skills I use in research writing and in discussions with investors.

What key things that you learnt at the Business School do you still rely on today?

  • Critical thinking
  • Working as a team
  • How to be a better version of yourself while achieving your goals
