The course

Why did you choose to study at the University of Edinburgh Business School (UEBS)?

I visited Edinburgh in 2019 and the city left a lasting impression on me. The blend of rich culture, stunning architecture, and lively atmosphere caught my attention right away. Since then, the University of Edinburgh was on my radar - not just for its reputation and deep-rooted history, but also for the diverse, inclusive communities it fosters. The international vibe and sense of belonging made it the perfect choice for me.

What was it about the degree programme that particularly attracted you?

I was attracted to this programme as it balances breadth and depth really well. After reviewing the curriculum and speaking with alumni, I saw it as a comprehensive course that equips you with a broad set of skills in under a year. The flexibility to explore various aspects of data analytics instead of being confined to one specific area really stood out to me.

Your career

Can you tell us about your career before and after graduating?

Before pursuing my Master’s, I completed my Bachelor’s in Industrial Engineering and had the opportunity to work at Bosch and Siemens Group in Germany, followed by a Project Manager role at a tech start-up.

Now, as a Data and Analytics Consultant at FTI Consulting, my role is focused on identifying and acquiring large data sets, designing complex models, and turning data into valuable insights. My work also involves collaborating with senior leaders to understand their data needs and craft solutions that drive informed decisions. Over time, I’ve become the key link between technical teams and business stakeholders, ensuring that complex insights are translated into actionable strategies.

The Business School gave me essential technical and leadership skills and refined my ability to connect with others.

How did your degree prepare you for your career?

My degree equipped me with a well-rounded skill set that has been invaluable in my career. The curriculum offered a deep dive into essential technical areas like predictive analytics, data visualisation, and machine learning. But what truly set the experience apart were the opportunities for personal growth - networking events and workshops that refined my ability to connect with others and adapt to new challenges. The programme not only laid a strong foundation for solving complex, real-world problems but also fostered critical thinking.

In my current role, the technical expertise I gained drives successful outcomes, while the focus on refining soft skills like leadership has profoundly shaped how I engage with colleagues and stakeholders. Whether facing high-impact projects or working with industry experts, I feel this degree gave me the confidence and skills to step up and make meaningful contributions.

Masters of Change

What notable changes has your degree enabled you to make in your professional or personal life?

Studying at the Business School opened my eyes to a global perspective and significantly boosted my confidence and adaptability.

My time in Edinburgh also allowed me to make lasting friendships with people from across the world - from the US and Europe to Indonesia and South America. It’s incredible to have such a diverse and supportive network of friends, enriching my life in ways I never imagined.

What are the changes you have been able to make in your chosen field, of which you are most proud?

In my role as a Data and Analytics Consultant, every day presents a new challenge, whether it’s understanding client’s unique operations, applying new technologies to solve their problems, or navigating the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence in the business world.

Although it’s still in its early stages, I’m particularly proud to play a role in sharing my knowledge with refugee communities. Sharing opportunities in the business and data world gives my work a broader impact, brings me a sense of purpose and inspires me to contribute meaningfully.

How did your studies at the Business School help you to make those changes?

Meeting people from around the world and experiencing life from diverse perspectives has been an eye-opening journey. Connecting with fellow MSc students from various programmes, alumni, and professional staff at the Business School created a supportive community that inspires me to achieve more.

What key things that you learnt at the Business School do you still rely on today?

One of the most valuable lessons I learned at the Business School is that you can achieve more than you ever thought possible. Whenever I encounter a challenge, I remind myself of the potential for growth and learning in every situation. This mindset has been crucial in both my career and personal life, motivating me to push beyond my limits and embrace new opportunities. It’s a reminder that there’s always more to discover and achieve.

Course highlights and advice

What are your best memories on the programme?

One of my standout moments from the programme was definitely the late-night library sessions. Yes, the library! The memory that truly highlights the journey for me was submitting my dissertation at 6am and celebrating the achievement with the incredible people I met along the way. All the hard work and those long nights were undeniably worth it. And, of course, the graduation ceremony was a perfect way to conclude the journey!

What one piece of advice would you give to current students and recent graduates?

One of the best pieces of career advice I’ve ever received is:‘the world is your oyster’. While it might sound cliché, it carries profound meaning. This is the advice I would pass on to anyone looking to make the most of their career. It taught me that I have the power to shape my own career path and explore opportunities that challenge me. Embrace the things that intimidate you and push beyond your limits, because real growth happens when you step out of your comfort zone.
