Joint degree programmes
Most of our accounting and finance programmes are joint honours degree programmes.
Joint degrees are a great way to study two subjects at the same time which gives you more course choices and flexibility when you graduate.
A joint degree qualification also shows employers you can work across a range of disciplines.
Studying Joint Honours
Our students share their experiences of life as a joint honours student.
The University of Edinburgh was one of the first universities I came to visit and I fell in love with the city and the University, and the fact that the Business School’s Accounting and Finance programme was highly ranked.

Why choose Accounting and Finance at Edinburgh?
Accountancy is the fastest-growing area of business activity. The ability to measure financial information and make projections affects economic and organisational decision-making at all levels. Our programmes will help prepare you to become financial accountants reporting on the performance of an organisation, and management accountants providing financial information to help with planning and strategy.
Professional accounting qualifications
All our accounting-related degree programmes have been developed to allow students to undertake accreditation courses which can lead to exemptions from qualifications set by a number of professional bodies.
Accreditation
The Accounting and Finance group has accreditation arrangements with the six major professional accounting bodies in the UK. All of our MA accounting-related programmes are accredited by:
- The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS)
- The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW)
- The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants
- The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA)
- The Association of International Accountants (AIA)

Together, we're here to inspire and empower you to fully develop a range of key competencies and achieve your full potential.
Benefits of a four-year degree
Edinburgh's four-year degree offers a range of advantages. The added experience and intellectual depth acquired over four years is widely recognised and greatly valued by employers, and you also have the opportunity to study abroad in your third year.
Your final 'honours' years 3 and 4 allow you to focus on your specialities in depth, and the fourth-year dissertation, comprising a piece of original research, represents the culmination of your degree and the demonstration of your abilities as an independent scholar.
Teaching and assessment
Your teaching and assessment will take different forms during your four-year degree.
