How does it feel to be selected for the Alumni 100 list?
"I am truly honoured! My time at the University of Edinburgh Business School was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and I am proud to represent the University in this way."
What made you choose to study at the University of Edinburgh Business School?
"I was attracted to the unique international community that Edinburgh offers. The city itself is a massive draw with its rich history and culture. What really convinced me, though, was meeting the University of Edinburgh Business School's staff. I was impressed by their curiosity and drive to equip students to learn, innovate, and help shape the world. It was an easy decision when I realised I could study at one of the best universities in the world while living in one of the most beautiful cities."
What's the one thing you think current students need to develop or learn before entering the modern workplace?
"Rather than be satisfied producing something mediocre, take ownership of the work before you and commit to grow and challenge yourself so that you can confidently produce work that sets a new standard of excellence."
What are your memories of studying at the Business School?
"Plenty of late nights and group projects! I'm forever grateful for the deep relationships those long hours of work fostered across our cohort. At the end of so much work, some truly rewarding memories include watching our strategic recommendations get implemented by local businesses and nonprofits during consultancy projects, and winning the 'Most Innovative' award in the Dragons' Glen business competition."
What key thing that you learnt at the Business School do you still rely on today?
"As Managing Director of the 2018–2019 Dragons Glen team, I learned about team building, project management, and community engagement while leading a team of 11 to build a business (ScratchEd Maps) in 5 months and raise money for the Scottish Charity, Children 1st. I lean on the insights and skills I gained during that experience daily and I'm positive they will continue to impact the way I lead teams in the future."
Proudest work-related achievement to date?
"I'm most proud of the work I've been involved with at the intersection of profit and purpose. A few years ago, I travelled Europe's refugee trail from Greece to Germany to document the stories of refugees, locals, and volunteers. This led to a series of grassroots and international campaigns which allowed me to leverage those networks and insights to advocate for positive community and business engagement with displaced populations.
"Then, while at the University of Edinburgh Business School I was able to research how digital work is being utilised as a form of sustainable human development for refugees. I was privileged to preent this research at an international conference, and have it published since graduating. I'm a strong advocate of the potential for business to engage in positive social and environmental change, and this was an excellent opportunity to showcase that on a global scale."
Take ownership of the work before you and commit to grow and challenge yourself.
