On the MSc in Global Strategy and Sustainability you will have the opportunity to work with industry and business professionals in a variety of ways such as through guest lectures, company sponsored dissertations, and career exploration treks.

This programme is closely linked with industry through a group consultancy project and leverages the University’s existing strengths in the sustainability domain — particularly its Centre for Business, Climate Change, and Sustainability (B-CCaS) and Edinburgh Climate Change Institute (ECCI) and their related industry and government networks.

Group consultancy project

During your MSc you will take a course which involves a consultancy project; this involves working closely with companies or businesses as part of a team to assist with a real-life active project.

In most cases, the client will ask you to write a report which you will research and develop during the taught component of the course. You will also develop your presentation and discussion skills as you present your findings back to the business.

Topics range from broad, strategic issues to more specialised business matters related to environmental sustainability, diversity, and social impact. Your group will have to work together to produce clear and practical recommendations while meeting deadlines.

Company sponsored dissertations

A company sponsored dissertation (CSD) involves a student carrying out an authoritative piece of work on a business or management issue identified by a project client.

The work will typically take an in-depth look into a defined research area and result in a substantial report containing extensive research, rigorous analysis and practical conclusions.
