1. Conditions of Tenure
1.1 Scholarship holders must inform the School Research Support Office of any other award(s). It should be noted that the value of a scholarship may be adjusted in the light of other awards. If you receive an external scholarship (outside of the University of Edinburgh) of higher value than this one, then you must accept it to allow the University award to be granted to another applicant.
1.2 Where awards are for a duration longer than one year, they will be renewed automatically subject to the award holder's satisfactory annual review and report. The School Research Support Office will call for these reports in good time and will notify you of the continuance (or otherwise) of your award before the relevant annual anniversary is due.
1.3 Award holders who discontinue their studies or who have an Interruption of Studies during their period of tenure must inform the School Research Support Office at once. You must pay back any funds inadvertently paid after your discontinuation date. However, if you are on an Interruption of Studies, the award will continue when you return to study.
1.4 Scholarship holders must satisfactorily complete the requirements of their PhD degree programme including the requirements of career developmental activities. Failure to comply with the requirements of the degree programme and requirements of the scholarship in respect of the developmental activities may result in the removal of the scholarship award. No further scholarship funds will be paid following any such removal of your award.
2. Career Development Activities
Development activities have a dual purpose; to support student development and to support School operations. Scholarship awardees are normally allocated 180 hours (annually) which you can use to support a wide range of School activities, build experience as a research assistant and for skills training.
A career development activities plan will be discussed with your supervisory team at the beginning of the academic year, and may change from time to time following appropriate consultation. Monthly timesheets will be requested to ensure you are on-track throughout the year.
