What projects are suitable?
Students on the MSc Finance programme undertake a range of courses, including:
- Corporate Finance
- Financial Markets and Investments
- Financial Statement Analysis
- Statistics for Finance
- Sustainable Finance
- Venture Capital and Private Equity
Projects within any of these areas would be of interest to our students.
Examples of projects
- Trends in UK Tech companies [merger and acquisition transactions]: a function of macroeconomic changes or natural market evolution?
- Are fixed income markets currently pricing carbon transition risk, and if so, to what extent?
- Are there links between corporate performance and stability of shareholder base? To what extent does the stability of the shareholder register impact the earnings potential of a listed company, and the resulting investment return? Why might this be?
- Have companies with good environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) practices produced superior stock price performance? Additionally, have companies with good environmental, social, and corporate governance practices performed better in crisis periods?
Qualifying criteria
- Complete an application form setting out clear project objectives
- Have an interesting research topic that meets academic requirements
- Willingness to communicate business details to the student
- Ability to engage with the student throughout the project
- Commitment to share necessary data and arrange access for data collection (NDAs can be signed as part of the process)
