Career consultations
You’ll have access to:
One-to-one career consultation sessions (30 mins/1 hour) – We suggest four sessions over the academic year. You might want to use these to:
- Agree a job search strategy
- Refine your CV and LinkedIn profile
- Understand how to navigate the job market
- Learn how to build strategic networks
- Practice your interview technique.
The sessions are beneficial to all students whether you plan to change career or industry, advance your career with your current employer or you’re simply unsure what to do next.
I am truly happy that I have taken the first step towards shaping my career. Your feedback and suggestions truly helped me get clarity.MBA student
Drop-in sessions (1 hour) – In addition to scheduled sessions, we have a weekly drop-in where you can come and ask any questions.
Workshops (1.5 hours) – We also schedule a series of interactive workshops to support you whilst you are considering your strategic career plans. Topics include networking, building your brand, CV tailoring, managing applications, impressing at interview and effective time management.
Industry experience
The value of external engagement with specialist practitioners in industry is integral to supporting our students and the programme is underpinned by access to real-world industry insight.
Treks - You’ll have the opportunity to visit organisations across sectors and locations and build on your global business perspective. Previously students have visited Google, NatWest and Amazon.
The treks are always a programme highlight and you can find student videos of previous treks on our social media channels at #StudentTreks.
Employer and alumni speakers - Through our partnerships, our leading research and our alumni community, the school has strong relationships across industry. You’ll have the opportunity to engage with industry practitioners leading the way in fields such as sustainability, technology, entrepreneurship and finance.
Business engagement conferences - Join peers on conference with access to industry expert employers and alumni.
Our two-day World of Work Conference in London offers the opportunity to hear from panellists and keynote speakers and to participate in workshops led by inspirational business leaders, many of whom are alumni who have achieved significant success in their careers.
Having the alumni as panellists made the difference. It inspired the cohort as we listened to their journeys.MBA Student
The Employability Conference hosted in partnership with University of Glasgow and University of Strathclyde is all about developing your network. This conference provides an opportunity to learn from industry experts in a variety of sectors and to network with your peers at other institutions. The conference will help you refine your career strategy so that it can be targeted to your sector of choice.
Project opportunities
The MBA programme also offers several opportunities to work directly with industry. Depending on the coursework in each year, and the electives you choose, you may work on three different projects to hone your consultancy skills.
You’ll have the opportunity to work on charity, marketing and strategic leadership consultancy projects as well as your final project.
Whether you are developing a business plan or analysing data for your final project, you will work with companies including:
- NatWest
- Johnson & Johnson
- Edinburgh Airport
Online resources
You’ll have access to online resources such as MBA Exchange with details of job opportunities.
On completion of the programme, you’ll still have access to personalised career consultation one-to-one sessions that can be delivered online or in person. We can cover topics such as job-search strategy, CV, LinkedIn review and practice interviews.
Alumni connections
You’ll also be joining our diverse, global alumni community of over 20,000 effective and responsible leaders making an impact across a wide range of industries. You’ll have opportunities to meet alumni and the MBA team will connect you with those in your area of interest.
