The Business School’s Centre for Business, Climate Change and Sustainability (B-CCaS) work on climate risk in finance, and research led by Professor Wendy Loretto and Dr Belinda Steffan on fair work, feature in the University’s Sustainable Development Goals: Stories of Impact report.
The report shares examples of how staff and students across the University are contributing to the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Agreed by UN member states in 2015, the SDGs set global targets to tackle urgent social, economic and environmental challenges by 2030.
The Business School projects featured are:
- The Centre for Business, Climate Change and Sustainability (B-CCaS)’s Climate Change Risk in Finance online executive education course equips finance professionals to interpret climate data, assess climate-related risks and apply this knowledge to decision-making. More than 250 participants, including staff from some of the UK’s largest finance companies, have completed the programme and used its lessons to take practical climate action.
- Research on extended working lives and age-inclusive practicesled by Dr Belinda Steffan, Lecturer in Organisation Studies, and Professor Wendy Loretto, Professor of Organisational Behaviour and former Dean of the Business School. Drawing on 80 interviews with women over 50, their study shows how workplace cultures shaped by the “ideal worker” stereotype often silence experiences of menopause. The findings, published in Gender, Work & Organization and shared with the UK Department for Work and Pensions, call for employers to review workplace norms and integrate health support so mid-life women can thrive.
As a School, we’re committed to working with our communities to bring about meaningful change for people, organisations and the environment. Featuring in this report reflects the breadth of our commitment, through teaching, research, and partnerships, to support inclusive work and accelerate climate action. We will continue to embed responsibility and sustainability across all we do, equipping our students and stakeholders to create better futures.Professor Gavin Jack, Dean of the Business School
