Postgraduate Catered and Self-catered Accommodation
The University of Edinburgh guarantees to provide accommodation to postgraduates who meet certain criteria.
Single postgraduate students from outside the EU are guaranteed student accommodation. Students from inside the EU are not guaranteed student accommodation but can be placed on a waiting list and allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Please be aware that for those hoping to secure University accommodation, you need to have both:
- Received and accepted an unconditional firm offer of study for the University by 31 July
- Applied for your University accommodation by 31 July
Detailed information on the postgraduate accommodation services is available on the University's Accommodation, Catering and Events site.
Applications are made through the Student Accommodation hub on MyEd, the University of Edinburgh's web portal.
Many of our EU students find accommodation through the University's Student Homes accommodation search, which has a range of single person flats available on a first come, first served basis. Although directed towards continuing students, our EU students are more than welcome to live here. EU students wishing to book an apartment through Student Homes can do so as soon as they have their Unconditional offer; you do not need to fill in an application form or go on to a waiting list.
Many MBA and MSc students prefer to live in private rather than University accommodation, particularly if they are accompanied by partners and families. If you are interested in renting privately, there are a wide range of flats and apartments in close proximity to the School. The University additionally provides family and couple accommodation through the Student Homes website. You may find the links below useful in your search for privately available accommodation.
